The quick answer

At launch, Modern Warfare 4 has 12 Core 6v6 maps, three 32v32 Ground War maps, four 2v2 Gunfight maps, and the modular Kill Block battleground for 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight. Shipment was added shortly after launch on October 27, bringing the current 6v6 count to 13.

Core 6v6 maps

Map Location and combat identity
Cachette French rail-terminal outskirts: abandoned wine warehouse and mechanic garage converted into an armory. Tight interior routes with yard fights.
Coal Another French rail-terminal site; the published launch description shares the warehouse/garage setting. Treat it as a close-range industrial map and learn the rail-side exits.
Lithium Rural Mexican lithium refinery beneath the Sierra Mountains. Processing structures create mixed mid-range lanes and tight plant interiors.
Lotus South Korean fishing village after an amphibious assault. Market, hostel, boathouse, gardens, and housing produce short rotations.
Mumbai Dense residential district around a Victorian market with a rail line cutting through the blocks. Expect close quarters and flank routes through market lanes.
Munition Active North Korean command facility with a munitions depot, monitoring rooms, skybridge, crane, water tower, and hangars. Vertical control matters.
Nautical A South Korean ferry at dawn, with debris, fires, and cramped deck routes. Narrow sightlines and dangerous crossings.
Reactor U92 South Korean reactor complex after a meltdown. A large concave command room and the containment pool create long interior lanes and exposed rotations.
Rooftops Snowy New York hotel rooftops with a greenhouse, HVAC platforms, boiler room, patio, skylights, pigeon coop, and laundry room. Vertical fights and roof-to-interior transitions.
Sentry Russian military base in a whiteout. Maintenance garage, generator room, substation, command center, and ruined barracks create short-to-mid fights.
Silkworm Dense South Korean shopping district. Alley access around apartments, a convenience store, gaming den, and central subway entrance make the middle a contest.
Transit 213 Overgrown parking lot in western India with buses, a repair shop, gas station, construction, and tenements. Mixed cover and flank-heavy rotations.
Shipment Post-launch Russian harbor map with the classic compact layout. Extreme close quarters; expect constant contact.

Large-scale and round-based maps

Ground War 32v32

  • Imjin Farmland: open fields, waterways, farms, the Rice Mill, roads, and rail. Long sightlines and vehicle routes.
  • Wolves Stadium: the Hajin city core around the ruined stadium, with multi-storey buildings, transit, tunnels, rooftops, and hillsides.
  • Forest: wooded hillside between Imjin Farmland and Wolves Stadium. Roads, off-road paths, train tracks, a hilltop guard tower, gas station, and barracks create vehicle and infantry fights.

Gunfight and Kill Block

  • Cafe: Paris courtyard with a theatre, kiosk, and central fountain. Statue and perimeter angles trade cover for longer sightlines.
  • Library: wood-panelled state library. Bookcases and a central walkway create tight sightlines and vertical peeks.
  • NYC: wintry downtown venue with a central stage, stands, equipment, and vendor cover.
  • Smuggler: rail yard with parked train cars, ladders, and warehouses. Fight on the ground, roofs, and interiors.
  • Kill Block: the Westbridge Training Facility. Three map slabs are assembled into a new layout each match, with more than 500 combinations. The layout changes between rounds, so learn sightlines and the overtime flag rather than memorizing one start.

Launch modes

  • Respawn: Inflation (new), Hijack (new), Frontline, Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Free-For-All.
  • Round-based tactical: Collateral (new), Search & Destroy, Gunfight.
  • Ground War: Combat Outpost (new Domination variant).
  • Party: Gun Game.
  • Training: Proving Grounds, a movement course with tutorials and timed runs.

Hardcore variants use a limited HUD, friendly fire, reduced health, and no health regeneration. The mode changes how valuable information and pre-aiming are, so do not assume a Core loadout behaves the same way.

How to choose a map for practice

  • Learning movement and close-range gunfights: Shipment, Nautical, Cachette, Silkworm, and the Gunfight maps.
  • Learning longer lanes and head-glitches: Reactor U92, Coal, Lithium, and Sentry.
  • Learning verticality: Rooftops, Munition, The Grid-style city routes in Ground War, and Kill Block.
  • Learning vehicles and objective rotations: Imjin Farmland, Forest, and Wolves Stadium in Ground War.

Map knowledge is more valuable than a tier-list gun at the start. Learn two exits from every spawn and one safe route to each objective before changing your whole loadout.
